Deidre Mengedoht, a devoted mother and tenacious police officer, dedicated her life to her family and community. Deidre was born on St. Patrick's Day 1986 and tragically passed away in the line of duty on December 24, 2018. While obtaining a Criminal Justice degree from the University of Louisville, Deidre quickly realized that her heart belonged in law enforcement. In October of 2011, after completing a grueling 7-month academy, Deidre was sworn in as a Louisville Metro Police Officer.
Deidre spent her entire career assigned to LMPD’s 2nd Division, working her way from Patrol Officer to Detective. She loved the community in which she served and dedicated herself to making Louisville a better place. Deidre used her infectious energy and enthusiasm to bring the best to every situation.
Balancing the demands of her challenging career with the responsibilities of motherhood, Deidre’s determination and resilience set her apart. She juggled late-night investigations and crime scenes with school pickups and bedtime stories, creating a loving home for her son. In her LMPD Recruit essay Deidre wrote “Motherhood brought nothing but positive things to my life. Most obviously, the gift of knowing, guiding, and loving my son.”. Deidre knew that life had purpose and could not be taken for granted.
Deidre’s genuine kindness and unwavering commitment to others made her not just an incredible mother and friend but a beacon of inspiration for everyone who was lucky enough to know her!
